(could it be the official changing of the guard)

4)the cubs when they get an owner are poised to start pulling a red sox/Yankees type of domination because of all the money they will have. but.................

they wont win the world series. and this is why.

1) 100 years of losing isn't just a losing streak, its a way of life. another 10 years from now, people are going to look back and say, remember when the cubs were the best team in the nl in 2008 (100 years since their last WS win) and they blew it? same ol cubs.

2)its amazingly hard to win the WS. you have to have the perfect combination of luck, defense, pitching and timely hitting and this year the cubs are good, but they are flawed. most teams are flawed but if you looks at the past world series winners, its not a perfect team that wins it, its a hot team.

2004) red sox beat the cardinals in a sweep. they just played the Yankees in an emotional 7 game series that they came back from a 3-0 deficit. they were hot and no one was gonna stop them.

2005)the white sox defeated the astros who had a tough tough NLCS against the cardinals. we all remember Albert pujols home run off of brad lidge that still hasn't landed. but more importantly the white sox in game two got a huge break. Aj Pierzynski was called out on strikes and the angels started walking off the field because Josh Paul threw the ball back to the mound. Pierzynski sees it happen and starts running to first claiming that it was a trap on the third strike and he makes it to first safe, the white sox win the the ALCS and the WS in four. they caught fire after that play.

2006) The Cardinals played their WS in the NLCS that year playing an emotional 7 games against the Mets. If not for Yadier Molinas game seven home run (timely hitting) and adam wainwrights pitching in the closing role, they don't go to the world series and almost sweep the tigers. Anthony Reyes pitched game one for the cardinals. (W) hes not even in the majors anymore. neither is game 5 winner jeff weaver. They would've swept the tigers if it wasn't for Kenny rogers getting his cheat on anyway. allegedly.

2007)Boston comes into the WS right after they escaped being beat. The Indians were 5 outs away from the WS. The Indians this year are one of the worst teams in MLB right now. The Rockies were on fire and had to sit for 8 days. Essentially getting punished for doing away with the Diamondbacks in 4. Boston, on fire from an emotional series with the Indians, comes in and completely fools the Rockies hitters because they haven't seen game live pitching in over a week.

I guess my point is this. i don't care how many years its been since you've won the WS. 100, 65, 24, 86, 400? It doesn't matter. Baseball has its way of rearing its ugly, or most beautiful head on teams that don't necessarily deserve it. If cubs fans really think they are going to win it all this year because its destiny, then so be it. 100 years. fine, if it happens, great. if it doesn't don't be surprised. you're still going to support your lovable losers, its almost better if you think of your team as losers anyway. most cubs fans are so arrogant that the delusions of grandeur have convinced them they are the best team around anyway.

cubs pitching is good but their wide receiver that pitches only throws heat and people can catch up to it, especially in the playoffs. they lack experience. playoff experience. their bullpen consists of eyre, marmol and (wood). only if they put him in the closing role again. gaudin is kind of a bumb. why was beane so easily able to just throw him in? harden, zambrano, lilly and dumpster is a good playoff rotation but the Z man has to cool his jets because if he gets all fired up and starts throwing in the middle of the plate, the ball gets tattooed. see yesterdays game against the cardinals.

I just don't think they have what it takes to win it all. 100 years and destiny isn't a solution.

The Cardinal's first series of the year.

The Cardinals started out opening up the season with a three game series with the NL Champion Colorado Rockies and over all the played pretty well. Wainwright looked good in the opener that got rained out. The next day we wouldn't figure out Kip Wells for some reason and lost but then went on to win the next two games beating Aaron Cook and Ubaldo Jiminez. We outscored them 12-5 in the series and Brad Thompson and Todd Wellemeyer got the wins. I also have a feeling that Rick Ankiel has the possibility of being a real special player. His defense is above average and so is his arm. He's quick to turn on pitches and has shown so far that he has some decent pop in his bat. Ludwick had a great game in game two of the series and even Skip Schumaker showed his ability to play left field with a good diving catch and by nailing Todd Helton at home in the rubber game.

There is a lot of baseball left to play this season but it's hard not to be at least a little optimistic in the way that they played this first series. If the opener wouldn't have been rained out, we would have swept the Rockies most likely. With Mark Mulder coming back in May and Carp after the break, who knows what this team is capable of. I'd give the Cardinals in the opening series against the Rox an B+

2008 MLB predictions and Cardinals outlook

As a Cardinal fan, I am encouraged by the optimism that LaRussa has for this season. But let's be honest here.

If Albert Pujols' elbow doesn't hold up, the Cardinals don't have a chance in hell to win the division, much less anything else.

There are a lot of question marks in the starting rotation. We don't know when Carpenter is coming back, it could be after the all-star break, much less how effective he will be. A lot of people get stronger and more effective after Tommy John, but who knows.

Mark Mulder might be back in Mayish? I'm a huge Mulder fan and really hope he can come back and be as effective as he has been in the past. There are a lot of Cardinals fans out there that don't know how good he can be. When he is healthy, he can be awesome. And with all the righty's in the rotation, the Cardinals needs a lefty in that rotation.

Adam Wainright can be as good as he wants to be. Mid-90's fastball and sick curve, he can win 15+ games again this year.

Braden Looper will struggle as a starter this year. His work load over the past season and the grind of being a set-up/reliever in the past will allow him to barely win 10 games. I'm hoping for more, but am just very unseure about him.

Matt Clement is a wildcard for this organization. I personally love the upside because I was a fan of Clement in his Red Sox days and know his potential. But he just hasen't pitched in a long time. Hopefull we can get 10 wins out of him.

Joel Piniero wouldn't have been signed if he didn't work well with Dave Duncan and Duncan didn't see his potential. He has the possibility of being an upper-middle rotation guy. When he is hitting his spots, he can be unhittable. It's not that often where is he is unhittable though. I optimistically look to 13 wins out of Piniero.

Anthony Reyes/Brad Thompson/Todd Wellemeyer are all the same to me. Someone to fill in that fifth day before Mulder/Carp come back. Anthony Reyes can't have another 2-14 season, can he?

Projected lineup

1. RF Skip Schumaker
2. CF Rick Ankiel
3. 1B Albert Pujols
4. 3B Troy Glaus
5. LF Chris Duncan
6. C Yadier Molina
7. 2B Adam Kennedy
8. Pitcher
9. SS Cesar Izturis

I'm not sold on really anyone in this lineup except Pujols and Molina. Schumaker is going to get a good shot at making the team and becoming a major contributor and I hope he pulls through. Ankiel tailed off after the HGH story came out. If Glaus can stay healthy, he can provide some protection for Albert that he hasen't had in two years. Duncan is terrible in the outfield and strikes out a ton. Kennedy needs to bounce back from his worst offensive performance in his career and from what i remember and from the Cubs fans I have talked to we're in for a long season with Izturis at the plate. He can't hit.

I really hope that LaRussa puts the pitcher back in the nine spot too. It just looks stupid and doesn't make that much sense.

My predictions for this year are as follows.

NL West

Arizona
Colorado
San Diego
Los Angeles
San Francisco

NL Central

Chicago
Houston
Milwaukee
Saint Louis
Cincinatti
Pittsburgh

NL East

New York
Atlanta*
Philadelphia
Washington
Florida

AL West

Seattle
Los Angeles
Texas
Oakland

AL Central

Detroit
Cleveland*
Chicago
Kansas City
Minnesota

AL East

Boston
New York
Toronto
Tampa Bay
Baltimore

* denotes wildcard winner

NL Champions New York Mets
AL Champions Boston Red Sox

WS Champions New York Mets

It WAS a good game.

So Super Bowl 42 is upon us, and there are two teams left. Giants, Patriots. This is what I thought the Super Bowl would come down to. I had terrible picks in the divisional round but in championship games I usually do well. I really hope Favre retires. I don't want to see him attempt another interception ever again. It's not like I hate the guy or anything, I'm just glad he isn't in the Super Bowl. If he was in the Super Bowl it would be a bazillion questions of about Brett. Brett, how do you feel? Brett, what does it feel like to be in the Super Bowl this late in your career? Brett, do you feel you can beat the Pats like you did in '96? Brett, how do you do it at this age? Brett, why haven't you missed a game? Brett, you have thrown a lot of touchdowns, do you think that Tom Brady or Peyton Manning can eventually beat your record? Brett, you're from Mississippi, how did it feel to beat another Mississippi boy in the NFC championship game? GAG ME WITH A FUCKING SPOON! I am soooo glad that Brett Favre isn't in the Super Bowl because if he would have beat the Giants, those were going to be the questions being asked starting Sunday. Super Bowl week is long enough, there are two weeks before the game still and that shit would have started as soon as Brett hit the podium after the game. So thank you Corey Webster for picking off that Brett Favre pass and hopefully sending him into retirement.

If the Patriots don't win Super Bowl 42, they will only be a team that went 18-1 and couldn't win the big game. That's not going to happen. The Patriots beat the Giants in week 17 and they will beat the Giants in the Super Bowl too. Even with a non-existent Randy Moss for the past two weeks, they have won with solid running from Maroney and a solid short game passing the ball to Welker and Stallworth and Kevin Faulk. They know how to get it done and they will do it again. Silencing all the critics, shutting up the 1972 Miami Dolphins and becoming the first team to go 19-0. Perfect against the NFL who who desperately wants a different team winning it every year. 4 Super Bowl wins in 7 years. A team of fate, a team of destiny. A team with Tom Brady playing God as men.

New England 34
New York 28

Q: How many touchdowns has Tony Romo thrown since dating Jessica Simpson?

A: Not enough.

Q:Who had a better relationship with Jessica Simpson: Tony Romo, or Nick Lachey?

A:Who cares Jessica Simpson is ugly!

Q: Who thinks that Tony Romo is dumb for going to Cabo with Jessica Simpson?

A: Cowboys fans and me because she is ugly.

I know, I know, couldn't pick a game to save my life this weekend except for the no-brainer, but this is just too good. The Colts lost to San Diego without LT and with a guy named Billy Volek AND dall-ASS lost to the Giants. This only makes the Patriots path to the Super Bowl easier and I'm telling you right now, look out Brett Favre. The G-men are coming to Lambeau with you in their sights.

I was listening to sports talk radio last night after the Packers game and the only people calling in were Brett Favre homers saying that he was THE best quarterback ever. Now, I think what Brett Favre has done in his career is incredible . I really do. He has records that I don't even deserve to look at in a book, but he is not the best quarterback ever. He's not even the best quarterback right now. Tom Brady is the best quarterback right now. Followed by Peyton Manning and then maybe its Favre. The Best quarterback ever is Joe Montana and one day people will say that Tom Brady is the best quarterback ever, if they aren't saying it right now. I remember watching Montana as a kid and being in complete awe. The way I feel about Brady right now. Brady isn't even 30 yet and is on his way to his 4th Super Bowl win. That is unheard of.

Now for my picks.

AFC Championship Game.

New England 38
San Diego 21

NFC Championship Game.

New York 28
Green Bay 24

Yeah I said it. First I think that as long as the Pats can score and J'ville doesn't keep them off the field half the game it will be another easy one for New England. I look for the MVP and AP Offensive player of the year to score three TD's and win this one, securing an AFC Championship Game at home and a date with the Colts. NE28 J'vill14.

Staying with the AFC. The Colts have a better offense, a better defense and they will beat the Chargers at home. If Pittsburgh can hold LT to 42 yards on 21 carries, then Indy will do at least that. Peyton will score three times and J. Addai will score another. Indy31 SD10.

NFC. I am not going to be a Tony Romo homer ever in my life. I still think he is overrated and not deserving of this 60MM contract. The Jessica Simpson thing is whatever. I think she has a horse face anyway. It's really hard to beat a team three times in one year but I think as long as T.O. is in that game, they get it done. It's in Dallas, Eli can't possibly have three good games in a row. Could he? I think this will be a good one though. Dall-ASS31 G-Men28.

Seahawks and Packers. Don't sleep on the 'Hawks Brett Favre homers. I know there is a ton of you out there not reading this blog. People love Favre. They like him because he's old. They like him because he's really good. They like him because he's a legend and a sure-bet hall of famer. I say they are holding on to a has been and as soon as this weekend is over, everyone holding on to their Brett Favre rookie card or Brett Favre autographed DVD of "There's something about Mary" or their autographed Brett Favre colostomy bag can finally GIVE IT UP and pack it in. No pun intended. Brett Favre was the Sportsman of the Year as issued by Sports Illustrated. Great. Awesome. Super. Brett, will you ever go away? Seahawks34 Brett Favre21. I think you rock. Now please stop getting up the hopes of a bunch of cheese-heads. I hate that they constantly think they are awesome and I also hate that they infiltrate the Hot Shots I like to watch games at.

Oh No 16-0!

More like Oh Yes! 16-0! Perfection. Something I thought I never would see in my lifetime. I only have a couple thoughts on the undefeated regular season and they are as follows.

I for one am glad that those assholes like Don Shula and all the other '72 Dolphins who came out and spoke about how no one would beat their record and be as good as they were finally got beat. There was some classless things said and not to take away from what they did, but let's face it, it was only a matter of time before some team quarterbacked by in my eyes the best ever beat their record. Now the Patriots haven't proved anything quite yet. They have had an undefeated season. Randy Moss has scored more TD's than any other receiver in a single season. Tom Brady has thrown more TD's than any other quarterback in a single season in history. The Pats have scored more TD's than any other team in NFL history. Wesley Welker has more receptions than anyone ever has. The Pats have won more games than any other team in NFL history. With that said, if they don't win Super Bowl 42, none of that matters. All they will be remembered as are choke-artists.

That's not going to happen though. Tom Brady is blue steele in the 4th quarter. He is le Tigre in the 3rd. When he needs to be Ferrari in the first half, he takes care of business. And I personally guarantee if he ever got into overtime with any opponent this year, be it the AFC Championship or Super Bowl he's breaking out Magnum. That's who he is. That's how he rolls. He sees people coming after his head while sitting in the pocket and not moving his feet and then letting go a perfect throw for 15 yards better than anyone I have ever seen. The G-men got one sack off of a O-line with two second stringers on the right side. Matt Light didn't even have a great game. His elusiveness is uncanny. It's better than I have ever seen. It's better than John Elway, Brett Favre and Kurt Warner in his Rams days. How he sees guys rushing in on him from his blindside in unbelievable to me. It almost doesn't make sense. I watched last nights game twice so far and if you watch Brady's feet after he moves back in the pocket just as he's about to get hit, they don't move. It's unbelievable. He's got that much poise and confidence in his line that he knows he can still get throws off in time even when defenses are collapsing on him.

19-0.

Anything else would be pointless.

Mitchell Report, The Saint Louis Cardinals and the 14-0 New England Patrioits

After watching the Mitchell reports all day yesterday on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic and other various media outlets there are a few things that I have deciphered that have happened because of the 20 month investigation.

Roger Clemens. There have been whispers that 'Rog' had been 'Roiding up but who would have thought a 44 year old who was still owning people in his 40's? Maybe it was the HGH. Maybe it was the steroids? Maybe it was the fact that he was doing all of those ever since he was winning CY Young's with the Toronto Blue Jays. Either way the 'Roid Rocket was shooting up, striking out lot's of people and winning Cy Young's. It makes it even sweeter that he lost game seven of the 2004 NLCS to the Cardinals. It makes it even sweeter now that the machine, the ageless wonder, arguably the biggest douche in the universe is also the number one name in this investigation. For everyone who is a Clemens lover i say to you: Take pride in the fact that TONS of players were doing steroids during this era. Take pride that LOTS of people were using HGH to "come back from injury" AHEM (See Andy Pettitte.) But the fact of the matter is, is that the whole steroid era or should I say steroid ERA would be a small minuscule universe without you and Barry Lamar Bonds. Granted, you didn't lie to a federal grand jury about using the cream, but you are just as guilty for having some clubhouse dude shoot you in the ass with some deca-durabolin and testosterone. Douche bag. It only makes it sweeter for me seeing you go 6-6 this year.

Notable douche-bags.

Barry Lamar Bonds-everyone knew he was juicing. Everyone. If you didn't, you have been in jail, had you head up your girlfriends ass for 8 years or pretended to like him. (side note:BLB is probably the biggest cheater, the biggest liar and the biggest douche in sports.)

Jason and Jeremy Giambi-I lump these guys in the same category because they both suck. They both used steroids and all you have to do to see the proof is to look at an old Sports Illustrated cover of "The Giambino" around 2000 with his long hair, his A's shirt, his tats and the crazy look on his face. I would find it and prove it with a link but that's how much I don't give a shit. He juiced, he admitted to it. Fuck him.

Gay-re Sheffield-No one can swing like that without shoving a needle into his own ass. No one.

Chuck Knobloch-He's not as notable as he's a fag. I hate the Yankees.

David Justice-I used to love Justice as a Brave even when I hated the Braves which has been always. Justice denied all allegations saying that he was a bad player when he was supposedly on the juice. It's okay Just, we don't care. Everyone was doing it. You're a lemming too. Word.

Miguel Tejada-Former A, former O, former steroid user. I wish he was a Cardinal. If you look at his numbers Tejada has played an average of 162 games in his career. Also, from 2000-04 he never had a season without 30+ home runs. He also had 203 hits and 150 RBI's in 2004. From 04-07 he never hit more than 30 home runs, he did have a good 2006 season hitting .330 with a hundred RBI's and then got hurt in 2007 playing only 133 games. Everyone is fallible and typing this I understand that this isn't the best example of steroid use, but he used them too. Just like some former Astro's. He's still way better than Izturis.

Paul LoDuca-Not surprising here.

Eric Gagne-No one saves like 100 games in a row without a little chemical help. I don't care who you are. Hey Boston, what do you think about the Brew-Crew giving him 10 mil for a YEAR. One word. DUMB.

Rafael Palmeiro-"I have never used steroids! Period!" Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Neither has Mark McGwire or Sammy Sosa.

Rick Ankiel-I want so desperately to give this guy a pass because he's a Cardinal. Yeah, I can't and this is why. I was at both games that Rick "the pitcher" Ankiel decided to throw it against the back stop thinking he could get people out. I was there. I watched him warm up throwing 90+ to the bullpen catcher flawlessly. THEN I WATCHED HIM THROW 6 PITCHES TO THE BACKSTOP AGAINST THE METS AND BREAK MY HEART. It doesn't surprise me you used some HGH. Hopefully you can continue to be a force in the Cardinals young lineup for years to come and not fizzle out in all your HGH'ed up glory.

Jose Canseco-I won't waste anyone's time.

There are a few more that I would like to mention but I'm not going to for lack of exuberance. I just don't care if Brian Roberts or Larry Bigbie did the 'roids. I don't care. Just as long as Albert Pujols didn't. It's really all I care about. Speaking of the Cardinals.

What Mo is doing is noble. Getting rid of payroll and making the team younger and I applaud him for that. I want to know when he's going to make a big blockbuster though. When is he going to make this team better for 2009-10. I understand signing Johan Santana to a multi-year deal is out of the question but the only thing I ask of you, Mo, is to make a deal that makes the fans happy. There is a long tradition in Saint Louis of having big name players and coming close and sometimes winning a championship. I don't see a championship for at least 5 years. Probably more than 5 years. I understand that winning one in 2006 while you were assistant GM was awesome but Cardinals fans smell blood. They want more. They have a new stadium, they have an all-star game in 2009 and they want more. I'm not asking for A-Rod. I'm not asking for Santana, hell I'm not even asking for Dan Haren, but what I am asking for is a chance to compete. Compete for the NL Central. Beat the Cubs and Brewers and Reds and Astros and Pirates. Get into the playoffs. Because if our last championship can attest to anything, it's that as long as you get into the playoffs anything can happen. Jeff Weaver won game 5 for us for God's sake. Yadier Molina who hit .216 in 2006 hit the biggest home run in the past 40 years for the Cardinals. Make us young, that's fine, but please, please make us competitive in the weak NL Central.

The Patriots won again on Sunday. That makes them 14-0 and they have the Miami Dolphins at home and the G-Men in the Meadowlands the following week. Prediction. Pats 34-7 over the Dolphins and I see the Pats beating the Giants who looked terrible Sunday night against the Redskins 28-14. If they do 16-0 i don't see anyone beating them this year. I really don't see anyone beating them anyway. They have a first round bye and home field advantage in the playoffs and if they make it to Super Bowl 42 which I totally expect them to do, weather won't be a problem there. They might have to play the Jaguars in the playoffs which proved they can play in cold weather this week but still doesn't hold a card to the Patriots especially in Foxboro. They might have to play the Colts but again they don't have a clue what to do with the Patriots especially when the Pats have the ball in the fourth quarter with all those weapons. Not to mention their defense which is really good too.

I see the Patriots becoming the first 19-0 team in NFL history, ousting the 1972 Miami Dolphins off their throne. Even if they don't go undefeated, they will still win Super Bowl 42.

Fukudome is a Cub

I don't know anything about Fukudome. Except he is being paid waaaaaay to much money to play right field for the Chicago Cubs. It would be real nice if the Cardinals could sign someone of at least a little importance. Ah well, there's always next year.

I wish Michael Vick wasn't such a douche bag. For my own selfish reason's if nothing else. He was sentenced to 23 months in the pen which was more than the federal prosecutor has originally recommended because he lied when he said he didn't kill a dog himself and then he failed to pass a drug test for marijuana. How hard is it to not smoke a J while awaiting sentencing Mike? Seriously. Is it really that difficult not to get your bong out and toke up with your friends before going to jail for a couple of years? Or did you fund that operation too? I would be more fine with this story if you didn't kill any dogs yourself but apparently you lied and got caught putting the noose around a pit's neck and that's why you got the stiffer sentence. You're boys will be out before you and maybe when you come back which everyone knows you will, try laying off the smoke and the dog killing. I feel bad for the team who thinks signing you will be a good idea in the 2010 season. You'll be 30. You'll be a pariah and you'll be slow. The sad part is is that you'll still make millions for at least a year or two. Maybe three.

Patriots and their perfect season.

I am a fan of Tom Brady just for the record. Ever since he has come into the NFL I thought he was special. When he beat the STL Rams in the Super Bowl I knew he was a good player. Then he won two more. He also went on to become the best dressed man in the WORLD, knock up Bridget Moynahan and then date Gisele Bundchen (who from another internet source may be pregnant with God.) This season, he and the Pats are 13-0. They beat the Steelers tonight and a lot of "professionals" on a few unnamed networks were convinced that Pittsburgh was going to win. Well I have news for you "professionals" NO one is going to beat the Patriots this year. No one. They are the best football team since the 1999-2000 STL Rams. They are better than said Rams. When Kurt Warner won the Super Bowl with the Rams he had an amazing amount of time to throw the ball. Too much time really. Tom Brady has more. When the Rams won the Super Bowl they had a running game. Tom Brady does not. Tom Brady has receivers that can catch the ball and run after the catch. Much like the Rams of old, they make plays, but this is not the Rams of 1999-2000. This is the 2007-2008 New England Patriots. A team of destiny. Much like the 2004 Boston Red Sox after beating the Yankees coming back from 3-0. This team has a will. And where there is a will there is a way. The only thing making keeping the Pats from going undefeated in the regular season is the Giants in week 17. But after dismantling the Steelers this week it showed how much heart they really have. They destroyed the number one defense in the NFL for 34 points while only being down 3-0 early in the first quarter. They had a botched play that Brady threw to Moss who threw it back to Brady and then Brady threw to Jabar Gaffney for 63 yards and a touchdown. After that play anyone who has watched this team for a game knew it was over. Then they stopped the Steelers on 4th and 1 at the goal line with almost the whole 4th quarter left. There was no stopping them. There is no stopping them. They have the Jets at home and the lowly Dolphins. After that they play the G-men in the Meadowlands on the NFL network to end out the season. It's a shame they are playing on the only network that no one is able to watch when the wrap up there perfect season. 16-0. No one's done it before. The Patriots will also win the Super Bowl to go 19-0 and finally silence the critics that said it could never be done. All the while Tom Brady is knocking up super models and dressing better than anyone in the WORLD.

Tim Tebow and the Detroit Tigers

The sophmore out of Florida should win the Heisman trophy. With 51 total touchdowns he was clear and away in my humble opinion the best college football player this year. Darren McFadden could steal it from him considering he is a senior and no sophmore has ever won it. I still think it's going to be Tebow. Even with the three losses Florida had this year, they play in the SEC. The toughest conference in college football. Colt Brennan had an outstanding year for Hawaii. An undefeated season even. He still didn't have as good of a season as he did last year and was barely mentioned for the Heisman. I think he'll have a good NFL career, but he won't win the Heisman trophy. Chase Daniel lost the trophy against Oklahoma. Had he put up numbers close to the week before when they played arch-rival Kansas, he would have locked it up. I for one am disappointed that he didn't show up because it would have been nice to see a Missouri player win such a prestigious award. With that said, Tim Tebow will win the Heisman. He'll probably win one or two more in the next two seasons as well as a national championship.

What the Detroit Tigers have done is amazing. They have just put themselves into a position to not only win the A.L. Central, but also win the American League crown. Their lineup is sick. With the addition of Dontrell Willis they have also solidified their pitching core and as long as they can get back Joel Zumaya back from injury, they could also have a decent bullpen. I still think as long as the Sox stay healthy they should be able to win another championship. If not two. Plus and addition of Johan Santana to that starting rotation would make that team into a dynasty.

My bad!

Mizzou couldn't handle OU's defense. They are too fast and they rush the pocket too quickly. Oh well. It was a good run. If Mizzou could have figured out what to do during half time, they would have had a shot. The truth is, is that OU's defense was too tough. Their D-line was too big and their d-backs were way faster than the Mizzou receiving core. It's sad really. I thought that the tigers had enough to punish the Sooners for lots of offense. Again, I was wrong. Are you serious? Go Tigers!

First of all, this Cesar Izturis deal I feel doesn't make the St. Louis Cardinals any better. He is a lifetime .259 hitter with no power and very little speed. The only upside to him is that he does have an above-average glove. I'm pretty sure that this was a bad move on new general manager John Mozeliak's part. Not even coming close to trying to sign the former World Series MVP is foolish. He was coming off an injury plagued season where he only played 117 games. I'm not the biggest supporter of Eckstein. I'm not an Eckstein lover by any means. But he is a better player than Izturis. The only thing I can say about it is that he was cheap and if he doesn't pan out, it doesn't cost the Cardinals much. I just wish they would be more aggressive in signing pitching. Or making a deal that involves Chris Duncan. Please make a deal involving Chris Duncan. We could actually get someone halfway decent for him AND he is terrible in the outfield. And Albert isn't going anywhere anytime soon. On mlbtraderumors.com there is some talk about a deal with the Brewers involving Chris Capuano. Does anyone else besides me remember how Capuano ended the season? Let me refresh your memory. After starting the season 5-0 he went on to lose his last 12 decisions and the Brew-Crew lost his 22 straight games he pitched in including four relief appearances. And he is coming off surgery from a torn labrum in his non-pitching shoulder. Well, at least he isn't Kip Wells. Good luck Cardinals.

The Missouri Tigers are about to play in the biggest game in the history of their program. With a win, Missouri can play for the BCS Championship in New Orleans against most likely West Virginia. I think Mizzou can beat OU this time around. The defense has improved dramatically. They have Tony Temple this time around. They aren't in Norman. They have so much more to play for than Oklahoma. If Missouri loses, it knocks them out entirely of a BCS Bowl game and most likely will play in the Cotton Bowl. OU is most likely without their best pass rusher who went down with a leg injury. Auston English had 1 and a half sacks and nine tackles when they played in October. As long as the Tigers don't turn the ball over and Chase Daniel has a typical Chase Daniel day, they should be able to win this ball game and play for the National Championship. That's still really weird to say. Prediction Missouri 45 Oklahoma 38.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jeffreyq2000sportsrecap.blogspot.com/2007/12/cesar-izturis-are-you-serious-go-tigers.html' title='Cesar Izturis? Missouri's seventh best passing offense in the nation should be able to outscore, outmatch and outplay KU's 16th rated offense. Although Kansas does run the ball better than Missouri, I think this match is going to be an all out ariel attack. Chase Daniel's 69.3% completion percentage is relatively comperable to Todd Reesing's 63.3% and touchdowns are the same at 30 apiece. Daniel does have 5 more interceptions thrown though but Kansas hasen't really played anyone as good as Missouri. Look for Jeremy Maclin who has the third-best all-purpose average in the country in the past five years to step up again. This guy is the man and if Daniel steps up he could be the front runner for the Heismann trophey after Saturday night too. If people are saying Tim Tebow after Saturday, I will be very suprised. Besides, no sophmore has EVER won the trophey anyway. Look for this matchup to be a high scoring, exciting affair full or drama and suspense. These teams and schools hate eachother and I for one cannot wait to watch this. Prediction: Mizzou 48 Kansas 36.

The Angels have a Hunter, the Devil Rays are no longer Devils

I'm convinced Tampa Bay deleted the "Devils" out of their name based on the fact that they finished 30 games behind the World Champions Boston Red Sox. "Rays" just seem much hipper than "Devil Rays." They didn't really have anything going for them anyway, so they might as well switch it up a bit, change the colors around, I don't know, look like the Padres and still continue to stink. Hey Rays, when the Saint Louis Rams decided to change their colors and adhere to the more hip, with it NFL markets, they did something too....they sucked. It's not really fair thought for you guys. If there were teams that spent 195 and 143 million in my division and i was spending less than A-Rod makes in a year, I would do anything I could to try and switch it up a bit. Hell, let's be honest with ourselves. We suck. We can't afford good players. Our team is based out of Florida. A-Rod makes more than our TEAM. We suck. If you need any more proof; see Tino Martinez.

Torii Hunter has agreed in principle to a 5 year, 90 million dollar deal to play with the L.A. Angels of Anaheim. Just in case you don't follow the Angels their outfield already has: Garrett Anderson. Gary Matthews Jr. Juan Rivera, Reggie Willits and Vladimir Guererro. I'm pretty sure without looking anything up that that is the most potent outfield in the majors. I'm not saying they are going to win a championship or anything, but wow, impressive. Mike Scioscia said Hunter would be the regular center fielder, with Matthews providing depth at all three outfield spots. Anderson and Guerrero are expected to spend more time in the designated-hitter role in 2008, giving Matthews plenty of opportunities to play left and right. With the trade of Orlando Cabrera to the White Sox for starting pitcher Jon Garland, the Angels seem to already be in contention for the American League crown in 2008. But then again, there is a lot of cold weather left. A lot of trades to be made and a lot of players to be bought.
